EIA-Environmental Impact Assessment
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is a process for anticipating the effects on the environment caused by a proposed development or project at a particular site. Where effects are unacceptable, design or other measures can be taken to avoid or reduce these to acceptable levels.
The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is a document produced in the course of this process. The EIS will comply with the EIA requirements which derive from EC Directive 85/337/EEC (as amended by Directive 97/11/EC) on the assessment of the effect of certain public and private projects on the environment. EIA requirements are integrated in Ireland into the land-use planning consent system as well as several other infrastructural development consent systems.
Safecon are heavily involved in developing environmental noise impacts for national road schemes, addressing potential noise emissions as part of the Environmental Impact Assessment process undertaken by, or on behalf of, the National Roads Authority or various county councils throughout Ireland.
