Castletown

Description

Castletown is Ireland’s largest and earliest Palladian style house. It was built between 1722 and 1729 for William Conolly, Speaker of the Irish House of Commons and the wealthiest commoner in Ireland.In 1994 the house with the exception of the contents, was transferred to State care and it is now managed by the Office of Public Works. A major programme of restoration and conservation work of the house and demesne lands was initiated from 2007 onwards.Safecon were the appointed PSCS safety consultants during this renovation period
