Safety Statement Introduction & Legal Requirement

Directors, owners and employers must meet the requirements of The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and the associated regulations.  If you employ more that 3 members of staff you must have a written health and safety policy statement with roles and responsibilities clearly defined

It is a practical tool for reducing accidents and ill health at work. The Safety Statement should be a 'live' document that all staff are aware of and which is implemented at all levels in the organisation, integrated into on-going activities and communicated to everyone in the workplace

Hazard identification and risk assessment is a key component of a health and safety statement. There is a legal requirement for employer to have completed a risk assessment (S.H.W.W. Act 2005) and have it in writing.

The employer must also ensure the person appointed by the employer is competent with respect to the risk assessment undertaken.
